Your Opportunity

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Support program delivery/monitoring of MHRC and Glen Eden Snow School Programs
  • Collaborate with the cohort coaching team to develop and execute training plans with a strong focus on FUNdamentalsTM and Return to Sport Guidelines ensuring safe training and race environments for athletes
  • Provide challenging on-snow skill development and training environment
  • Flexible and innovative in utilizing available terrain and park elements, taking advantage of offsite training opportunities
  • Support delivery of the dryland training program
  • Ownership of the athlete development, providing mid-season and end of season evaluations
  • Support on-snow training and race related tasks (i.e., lane preparation, course setting and maintenance, tear-down and lane clean-up), video analysis and timing system set-up/clean-up
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained and operational throughout the season
  • Ensure athletes abide by the AOA & MHRC Codes of Conduct
  • Responsible for record keeping and reporting on attendance, ability levels, and incidents as required
  • Attend all required staff training sessions both on and off hill
  • Adhere to all Safe Sport and Head Start policies/protocols, modelling positive behaviours to ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment is maintained for all MHRC athletes at all times
  • Work in accordance with the Conservation Halton's Safety Policies & Procedures and the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and all other related manuals.
  • Other duties as assigned

Your Qualifications

  • You are:
    • passionate about skiing, ski racing and bringing out the best in the athletes
    • a positive role model, team player, collaborative, and engage openly with all members of the coaching team and race administration sharing best practices and helping to develop and maintain a supportive coaching team culture
    • an effective communicator with MHRC Board members, parents, and athletes, and use a high level of diplomacy
    • skill development oriented, professional, motivated, and dedicated
  • Minimum Alpine Canada Coach - Entry Level (ACA EL) trained prior to first day on snow;
    • CSIA Certification an asset
    • DL Training/Certification an asset
  • Previous general ski coaching experience at U8/10/12 for enrollment in CIT program for the 2023/2024 season
  • Previous ski racing experience is an asset
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of the ACA LTD plan
  • Candidate must provide appropriate Alpine Ski Race equipment, suitable for coaching & demonstrating including Skis, Poles, Helmet & Black Pants *Uniform jacket will be provided for the season
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds, stand, and walk for long periods of time
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete Risk Management Education training provided by Conservation Halton
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSS), to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted (if over 18 years old). *Cost covered by Conservation Halton up to $30.00.
  • A valid Ontario Drivers Licence is required for competitive stream coaches to travel to various race locations.
