Position Summary: Ski Patrol is responsible for setup and maintenance of hill safety equipment and devices throughout the season. Provide Professional Responder level medical care in accordance with the National Occupational Competency Profile for Paramedics at the Emergency Medical Responder level. Conduct Lift Evacuation and extrication of patients from difficult areas, using NFPA 1006 Rescue Standards for High and Low-Angle Rope Rescue. Write detailed reports documenting Injuries and medical procedures, accident reports and critical incident investigations. Deal with conflict and de-escalate situations with customers or staff, when called upon by other departments.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide Professional Responder level Medical Care in accordance with NOCP EMR Standards.
  • Conduct Opening and Closing sweeps for safety, marking hazards, repairing safety equipment and documenting findings.
  • Advanced level skier with the ability to ski all runs on resort and transport patients in a safe manner using the toboggan and safety equipment.
  • Work in adverse weather conditions, extreme cold for full shift.
  • Continuous patrol, documentation and repair of hill conditions throughout shift.
  • Hill Maintenance and placement of signs, fences, safety devices etc.
  • Ride and Inspect lift for proper operations.
  • Inspect and maintain Medical Response Equipment, Treatment Rooms, Extrication and Rescue Equipment. Advanced knowledge of cleaning and infectious disease control standards.
  • Respond and de-escalate conflict among guests and staff members, support other departments in conflict resolution. Assist management with security issues by documenting and providing supporting witness statements.
  • Enforce the Alpine Responsibility Code.
  • Conduct Lift Evacuations and Patient extrication under NFPA 1006 Rescue Standards for High and Low Angle Rope Rescues.
  • Participate in local Search and Rescue operations, assist outside agencies including Emergency Services.
  • Remain professional at all times during customer interactions and duties. Be positive and deliver excellent customer service.

Qualifications:

  • MUST be an advanced level skier with the ability to ski all resort runs, conduct safety inspections of equipment off hill or difficult terrain.
  • MUST be able to transport patients using the toboggan from anywhere on the resort.
  • MUST be available for 3-5 shifts per week or;
  • Casual MUST be available for 2 shifts in pay period. (As needed basis, subject to pass restrictions). Professional position in Emergency Response, Health Care or experienced Ski Patrollers ONLY.
  • At minimum Emergency First Responder, recommended Emergency Medical Responder Professional Responder level courses from recognized training authority (Red Cross, St. Johns Ambulance) or an equivalent or greater qualification ie. AEMCA, ER Nursing etc.
  • Ability to complete detailed reports of medical treatment.
  • Ability to conduct and complete accident and incident investigations throughout the resort.
  • Must complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.
