Job Summary
Under the general supervision of a Labour Supervisor in Street Operations, this position performs labour tasks of a general nature involving physical effort. Operates special equipment on a continuous basis and performs other maintenance and /or is a working Lead Hand.
Organizational Status
Seasonal Labourer within the Municipal Services (Street Operations) Unit of UBC Facilities. Reports to the Head Labourer in Street Operations.
Work Performed
Assists with the maintenance of hard landscapes and other general labour duties using specialized equipment. Performs tasks of general nature involving physical effort. Assists trades engaged in the construction and maintenance of structures, pipelines and drainage systems. General duties related to hard landscape, campus cleanup, road repair and other tasks not requiring specialized skills.
Operates light, medium and heavy vehicles and special construction and maintenance equipment (including, but not limited to, power washers, backpack blowers, jack hammers, tampers, concrete vibrators, concrete/asphalt coring and cutting equipment, sandblasting equipment, bobcats, and any other special equipment.
May monitor the work of a group of Labourers in an assigned area as designated by the Head Labourer or Sub-Head Labourer; participates in the work and ensures those under his/her jurisdiction work in a correct and safe manner
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Determines the most efficient and effective way to operate equipment to perform work; incorrect decisions result in minor delays.
Supervision Received
Works under general supervision and from oral and written instructions and according to established procedures.
Supervision Given
Monitors the work of a group of labourers in an assigned area as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Secondary school education and/or completion of high school, valid BC driver's license or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Good physical fitness; knowledge of construction and maintenance equipment and usage. This position will be required to work 37.5 hours per week.
