Patrol Dispatch (Winter)

As the Mountain Operations Dispatch your primary task will be to coordinate incident response and command, task deployment, mountain coverage requirements, mountain tasks, snow safety, general work, and special projects.

Essential Functions:

  • To document all tasks pertaining to the position in a professional manner using Edge Auditor Dispatch software, and other software that we may utilize.
  • Take calls from guests, staff, other agencies, and communicate effectively with all other mountain safety agencies, EMS, RCMP, SAR as required.
  • Make good efficient decisions on resource management, think outside the box to deal with unpredictable incidents, and be a source of knowledge for Patrol/Trail Crew/Avalanche and all on mountain staff.
  • To ensure that Emergency Response Plans and Procedures are up to date and utilized as appropriate.
  • To assist with updating all SOP's, Safe Work Practices, and other operating protocols.
  • To assist with Patrol Clinic, walk in patients as required.
  • To provide remote advice and guidance to on-scene patrollers in the administration of medical procedures and protocols.
  • To assist with any other projects that are required within Mountain Operations, such as updating manuals, organizing computer files, risk management material, accident investigations, documentation, inventories, tracking, sourcing resources, training material preparation.
  • To complete weekly checks and inventories of medical, rescue, and other equipment and resources.
  • To provide accurate information about the resort operations to other staff and guests.
  • To input weather observations as per guidance from the Avalanche Risk Management Program.
  • To attend all Patrol training and be up to date with Medical and Rescue skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and able to coordinate multiple incident responses simultaneously in a calm and efficient manner.
  • Any other duties that can be undertaken without disrupting the performance of your primary dispatch duties above.

Experience/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 80+ hour Outdoor Emergency Care Certificate (OEC) preferred or 80+ hour OFA level 3 or Wilderness First Aid certificate.
  • High level of computer literacy

Job Experience:

  • Previous patrolling experience, at Panorama Mountain Village, and previous medical training.
  • Previous experience performing the role of Dispatch within the ski patrol/mountain safety industry, call taking, and coordination of incident command and response.

Physical Requirements:

  • Other tasks may include skiing in difficult conditions, working in cold and often inclement conditions, high elevations, carrying and transporting unwieldy materials such as tower pads, medical equipment, etc.
  • Must be able to hear and speak clearly to hear beacon signals and skiers requesting assistance, and for communication to occur using radios and telephones.
