Job Summary

As a Mountain Safety, you are an integral part of the Mountain Operation steam; acting as a safety resource for all staff from all other departments and assisting where required in creating good safety culture at Grouse Mountain. Under direct supervision from the Patrol Supervisor and Patrol Manager, Mountain Safety assist in the day to day safety operations of the mountain; touring the mountain and maintaining rope lines, tower pads and snow fences, assisting patrol with the set up and take down of speed control fences and other, speed control, snow removal, and other risk management initiatives.

Essential Job Functions

  • Actively touring the mountain and maintaining rope lines, tower pads and snow fences.
  • Assisting patrol with the set up and take down of speed control fences.
  • Speed Control and Alpine Responsibility Code enforcement in Grouse’s slow zones and congested areas.
  • Educating staff and guests to the components of the Alpine Responsibility Code.
  • Assisting guests who are having a difficult time or feeling unsafe.
  • Acting as a Grouse ambassador for guests with questions, complaints and queries
  • Acting as a safety resource for all staff from all other departments and assisting where required in creating good safety culture at Grouse Mountain Resorts Ltd.
  • Technical snow removal from areas such as atriums, roofs and cornice control from buildings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position reports directly to the Patrol Supervisor and Patrol Manager, with no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Required Qualifications and Abilities

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Intermediate skiing / snowboarding ability
  • Strong motivator, problem solver and team player.
  • Strong risk management skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Introductory first aid certificate such as Standard First Aid or Occupational First Aid level I
  • Knowledge of ropes, knots and fall arrest systems.
  • Customer Service training

Working Conditions

Mountain Safety perform most of their duties outdoors and may work in all different kinds of weather conditions. Hours of operation are weather dependent. Due to the nature of the business, this position requires flexibility in terms of your work schedule. A variety of work schedules may include rotation of shifts, day/evening shifts, and weekends and statutory holidays. Shifts require standing for long periods of time, lifting, twisting, shoveling, and other forms of manual tasks.

Compensation and Benefits


$18.44/hour to $21.57/hour
