Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is the Champagne Powder Capital of Canada. From steep and gnarly chutes to fast and fun glades and furious groomers, the on snow experience at Kicking Horse is exceptional. Nowhere else can you ride a single gondola almost 4000ft. right to the summit and drop straight into the goods. Our clients are as varied as our terrain: locals, weekend warriors and homeowners from Calgary, and destination guests from all over Canada, the Americas and Europe. Instructors here are kept on their toes delivering exceptional, individualized guidance and instruction with a huge variety of expectations.

You will:

  • Ensure the safety of students and guests and provide an exceptional mountain experience through professional instruction in skiing or snowboarding
  • Contribute to a professional, supportive environment for other Instructors and KHMR staff
  • Mentor and lead our enthusiastic staff with the aim of developing excellence within the school
  • Conduct instructor training sessions for the advancement of our growing staff
  • Provide group and private lessons for all ages in beginner to expert terrain
  • Maintain records of teaching with the Winter Sports School Team Lead
  • Engage in daily team meetings, training and other communications necessary to provide a high-quality instructional experience for guests of the resort
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Be flexible in terms of hours scheduled and lesson types assigned
  • Be able to withstand extended periods of exposure to extreme weather conditions on resort (cold, wind, snow, altitude)

You:

  • Are an advocate for health and safety who prioritizes the safety of your co-workers, clients and guests
  • Have relevant CASI Level 3 or 4 Instructor certification
  • Have CASI Level 1 & 2 course conductor/trainer status an asset
  • Have previous professional work experience in a snow or recreation instructor role as appropriate for given certification level
  • Have an outgoing personality with excellent communication skills
  • Are passionate about instructing and creating a safe and engaging learning environment
  • Have passion and enthusiasm for mountain culture, skiing /snowboarding, and the resort environment
  • Have strong teamwork & cooperation experience
  • Are committed to safety
  • Must have flexibility in hours and lesson type
  • Are able to withstand extended periods of exposure to extreme weather conditions on resort (cold, wind, snow, altitude)
  • Have sufficient strength, physical conditioning, and stamina to be able to conduct on-mountain ski or snowboarding lessons for extended periods of time
  • First Aid, guiding and/or avalanche certification or training an asset
  • Have a completed criminal background check
  • Can provide one, preferably two, professional references
